JICA Delegation Visits Polije’s Teaching Factory (TEFA) to Observe Applied Learning Innovation
A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) conducted an official field visit to several Teaching Factory (TEFA) units at Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije). The visit, held on Monday (24/11/2025), aimed to provide JICA with a closer look at Polije’s applied learning ecosystem and its industry-based training facilities.
JICA representatives were welcomed by managers and staff from various TEFA units. The tour showcased Polije’s commitment to integrating classroom learning with real-world production environments one of the institution’s key strengths in vocational education.
“This TEFA model is proof of Polije’s commitment to integrating learning with a real production environment, ensuring our graduates are industry-ready,” explained Surateno, S.Kom, M.Kom., Vice Director of Academic Affairs at Polije.
The visit began at the Autohub and Icetube TEFA units, where the delegation observed hands-on student training in automotive technology and refrigeration engineering. The tour then continued to the UHT Milk Production Unit, where students demonstrated modern food processing techniques, as well as the TEFA Bakery and Coffee unit.
At the Smart Green House TEFA, the delegation experienced technology-supported horticulture practices, including digital monitoring and precision cultivation systems. This innovation is highly aligned with JICA’s initiatives in agricultural modernization.
“We greatly appreciate the effectiveness of Polije’s TEFA model. The innovation in the Smart Green House, for example, is highly aligned with JICA’s agricultural modernization program,” said the JICA delegation.
Overall, the TEFA visit strengthened JICA’s understanding of Polije’s ecosystem and created a strong foundation for potential future collaboration. Both institutions look forward to exploring initiatives that support innovation and sustainable development in vocational education.
