The Jember Resort Police (Polres Jember) participated in the Politeknik Negeri Jember’s International Students Orientation by delivering a crucial briefing on the monitoring system for foreign nationals in Indonesia. The session aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of national security policies, legal compliance, and their responsibilities as temporary residents.

Polres Jember official, IPTU Wawan Sugianto, KBO Satiltelkam, explained that foreigner monitoring is conducted in coordination through the Foreigners Monitoring Team (TIM PORA), involving Immigration, the Indonesian Army (TNI), and other agencies. The legal basis for police authority includes Police Law Number 2 of 2002 and Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 3 of 2025. IPTU Wawan Sugianto stated that this system is important to ensure all students undertake their studies in accordance with the law.

“This session aims to strengthen students’ understanding of national security policies and legal compliance. Through TIM PORA, we coordinate to ensure all foreign nationals conduct their activities in accordance with the applicable provisions,” explained IPTU Wawan Sugianto.

Polres Jember also outlined common immigration violations, such as overstaying or using forged documents. Every violation carries significant penalties, ranging from fines to imprisonment.

“We emphasize that avoiding immigration violations is crucial. Violations such as overstaying or using forged documents can result in heavy sanctions, ranging from fines to imprisonment,” asserted IPTU Wawan Sugianto.

Important community regulations discussed included the requirement for foreign nationals to report their presence to the nearest police station within 1×24 hours. IPTU Wawan Sugianto encouraged students to seek assistance through official channels and urged them to familiarize themselves with Indonesian laws and cultural norms.

“We remind you of the community obligation to report your presence to the nearest police station within 1×24 hours. We encourage students to familiarize themselves with Indonesian laws, respect cultural norms, and maintain open communication with Polres Jember,” concluded IPTU Wawan Sugianto.
