JEMBER – The Green Field at Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) came alive with excitement and a strong sense of togetherness as students from Kyungpook National University (KNU), South Korea, joined Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day celebrations.

The Korean students joined Polije students in a series of traditional games on Wednesday (August 12, 2026). The event also provided a special opportunity for them to experience the fun and spirit of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations firsthand.

Various popular traditional games added to the festive atmosphere on the campus field. The international participants showed great enthusiasm as they took part in tug-of-war, skipping rope, and relay quizzes.

“These traditional games provide an effective way to introduce our Independence Day culture and celebrations,” said WFK-ICT Polije President Azrieal Akbar Zackiansyah.

He added that the event further strengthened the friendship and sense of togetherness among the participants.

WFK-ICT President from KNU, Jeong Donggi, also warmly welcomed the opportunity to experience the excitement of Indonesia’s Independence Day. He said the interactive event provided his team with a memorable cultural experience.

“We are very happy to experience firsthand the joy and spirit of gotong royong, or mutual cooperation, among Indonesian people,” said Jeong Donggi.

The celebration added a meaningful cultural dimension to the WFK-ICT 2026 program, which has been running since 2019.

The enthusiasm of the international students brought a new dimension to Polije’s Independence Day celebrations. The international collaboration demonstrated how the spirit of independence can bring people from different cultural backgrounds together through shared joy and friendship.

“Hopefully, the friendship and synergy between Polije and KNU, South Korea, will continue to grow,” Jeong Donggi concluded.
