JEMBER – A team of academics from Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) has initiated the development of river-based tourism potential in Suci Village, Panti District, Jember. The team is preparing a sustainable tourism development plan to create business opportunities through a local water tubing destination.

The Community Service Program is led by Firda Diartika together with lecturers from the Department of Language, Communication, and Tourism. The program received full funding from Polije’s Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) in 2026 under the Assisted Village Scheme.

The Polije team is preparing a comprehensive master plan covering area zoning, environmental management, and a long-term action roadmap. The document will serve as a measurable guide for the village government to manage the tourism destination safely.

In addition, the academics conducted tourism awareness and Sapta Pesona training for local managers and community groups. The training aims to strengthen the capacity of community-based destination management in an independent and professional manner.

“We are preparing the master plan so that the development of the tourism area has a clear and measurable direction,” said Firda Diartika, head of the Polije community service team.

The team also provided basic English training for tour guides in late September at the Suci Village Office. The training aims to increase local guides’ confidence when serving international visitors.

The program also actively involved students from Polije’s Tourism Destination and English Study Programs in field activities. Their involvement strengthens the collaborative role of higher education institutions in supporting the economic independence of rural communities.

“Strengthening communication skills can create broader opportunities to welcome visitors from around the world,” Firda concluded.
