The Department of Language, Communication, and Tourism at Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) successfully organized LUMORA (Lighting Up Modern Oratory, Revolution and Art), an English language competition designed to nurture and showcase the talents of young learners. The event attracted hundreds of students from various educational levels and provided a creative platform for developing communication skills through English.

Held on May 21, 2026, the competition featured two main categories: Speech and Storytelling. Participants ranged from kindergarten to senior high school students, reflecting the event’s inclusive approach to promoting English language learning among young people.

According to Enik Rukiati, Head of the Department of Language, Communication, and Tourism, the event was made possible through the support of students, teachers, mentors, and educational institutions. She expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm shown by all participants and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the competition.

LUMORA was designed not only as a competition but also as a learning experience that helps students build confidence and strengthen their public speaking abilities. Through speech and storytelling performances, participants were given valuable opportunities to practice communicating in English before an audience.

The event aligns with Polije’s commitment to fostering practical language skills that are increasingly important in today’s globalized world. By encouraging students to use English actively and creatively, the competition helps improve communication competence while supporting personal and academic development.

One of the unique aspects of LUMORA was its engaging and interactive format. Rather than presenting English learning as a difficult academic subject, the organizers created an enjoyable atmosphere that combined education, creativity, and entertainment. This approach helped participants view language learning as an inspiring and rewarding experience.

The competition also strengthened collaboration between schools and higher education institutions. Through activities such as LUMORA, Polije seeks to build stronger educational partnerships that support the development of future generations and encourage students to pursue excellence in language learning.

Through LUMORA, Polije continues to demonstrate its dedication to developing young talent and promoting English proficiency among students. By providing a platform where learners can express their creativity, improve their communication skills, and gain confidence, the institution contributes to preparing a generation that is ready to compete and collaborate in an increasingly global environment.
