The Director of Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije), Saiful Anwar, has reinforced the institution’s commitment to sustainable development by providing strategic direction to the campus Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) team. The initiative is aimed at strengthening Polije’s Green Campus program while enhancing the institution’s credibility and competitiveness in national and international sustainability rankings.

During a coordination meeting with the SDGs team, Saiful emphasized that sustainability efforts should go beyond rankings and become an integral part of institutional development. He highlighted the importance of embedding SDG principles into academic, operational, and environmental management activities across all units within the university.

One of Polije’s major targets is to improve its position in the UI GreenMetric rankings, where the institution has already established itself as one of Indonesia’s leading green vocational universities. Achieving higher rankings will require strong coordination among departments and comprehensive documentation of sustainability-related programs and achievements.

Waste management remains a key priority within the Green Campus strategy. The Director urged all campus units to maintain consistency in environmental programs and strengthen collaboration to ensure effective waste reduction and recycling initiatives. These efforts align with Polije’s long-term vision of creating a cleaner and more sustainable campus environment.

In addition to waste management, Polije continues to invest in renewable energy and environmentally friendly infrastructure. The institution has expanded initiatives involving renewable energy technologies, greenhouse optimization, livestock waste management, and rainwater harvesting systems to support sustainability indicators and improve resource efficiency across campus.

The Green Campus strategy is also closely linked to education and research activities. Through its SDGs Center and various Teaching Factory (TEFA) programs, Polije encourages students and lecturers to develop innovations that address environmental challenges while contributing to sustainable economic development.

Recognizing that environmental issues extend beyond campus boundaries, Polije is strengthening collaboration with local governments and external stakeholders. These partnerships are expected to support broader environmental initiatives in Jember and create opportunities for community engagement in sustainability programs.

By reinforcing its Green Campus strategy through the SDGs framework, Polije aims to become a national model for sustainable vocational education. Through continuous innovation, environmental stewardship, and collaborative action, the institution seeks to build a future-ready campus that contributes meaningfully to sustainable development while preparing students to become leaders in the green economy
