CHINA – Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) is strengthening its food processing expertise by sending a lecturer to China. During the program, Dr. Elly Kurniawati, a lecturer in the Food Engineering Technology Study Program, explored Food Additives Applications Technology.
The international program, jointly organized by HOPE Indonesia and Jiaxing Vocational Technical College, runs from August 15 to September 15, 2026. Through the program, the lecturer is gaining insights into the efficient and safe use of food additives in line with international standards.
Throughout the program, Elly studied food additive formulation, natural preservation techniques, and methods for improving the quality of processed food products. These technologies can also help extend shelf life while maintaining the nutritional value of food products.
The training strengthens Polije’s commitment to integrating food safety standards into its academic curriculum. The knowledge gained in food science and formulation will further enrich practical learning for Polije students.
“Food additive technology can improve processing efficiency while maintaining product quality,” said Polije lecturer Dr. Elly Kurniawati.
Elly further explained that integrating precision formulation with food safety standards can support innovation in functional food products. She noted that China’s formulation technologies are highly relevant to strengthening Polije’s applied research ecosystem.
“We will apply the knowledge gained from food additive application technology to improve learning for Polije students,” Dr. Elly Kurniawati added.
Polije also plans to incorporate modern food processing modules into practical courses in Food Engineering Technology. This initiative is expected to better prepare Polije graduates to compete in the global processed food industry.
Ultimately, strengthening expertise in food science and formulation demonstrates the active role of vocational higher education in supporting food security. The international partnership also expands Polije’s academic network and strengthens its global engagement.
