A team of lecturers from the Department of Language, Communication, and Tourism (BKP) at Politeknik Negeri Jember (POLIJE) conducted an Interactive English Grammar Training for students of MA Darul Kholili Jember as part of the university's 2026 independent community service program. The initiative was designed to strengthen students' English grammar proficiency while building their confidence in using English for everyday communication.

The training was led by five BKP lecturers: Cholimatus Zuhro, Agus Setia Budi, Nila Susanti, Suyik Binarkaheni, and Asep Samsudin. Drawing on their expertise in English language education, the team introduced an engaging learning model that encouraged active student participation rather than relying on traditional lecture-based instruction.

According to Cholimatus Zuhro, the team observed that many students already possessed a solid foundation in English but often hesitated to speak because they feared making grammatical mistakes. This lack of confidence frequently limited their classroom participation and prevented them from developing effective communication skills. The training was therefore designed to help students overcome these psychological barriers while improving their understanding of English grammar.

To create a more enjoyable and effective learning experience, the lecturers implemented an interactive learning approach that positioned students at the center of the learning process. Grammar concepts were delivered through group discussions, educational games, simulations, and interactive quizzes, allowing participants to practice English in a supportive and engaging environment.

The student-centered activities encouraged learners to communicate more actively while reinforcing their understanding of grammar through practical application. Rather than memorizing grammatical rules, students were motivated to use English confidently during collaborative exercises and real-life communication scenarios.

The program also reflects POLIJE's commitment to extending the impact of vocational higher education beyond the campus through meaningful community engagement. By collaborating with secondary schools, the university contributes to improving the quality of English education while equipping students with communication skills that are increasingly important for higher education and future careers.

For the lecturers, the activity represents the practical implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community service. It also demonstrates how innovative teaching methods can create more inclusive, enjoyable, and effective learning environments that encourage students to participate actively in the learning process.

Through the Interactive English Grammar Training at MA Darul Kholili, POLIJE continues to demonstrate its dedication to improving educational quality and empowering young learners. By combining innovative pedagogy, community engagement, and student-centered learning, the university is helping to build a generation of confident English speakers who are better prepared for academic success and future professional opportunities.
