Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) marked a significant academic milestone by officially inaugurating Prof. Dr. Ir. Rosa Tri Hermawati, M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng. as a new Professor in the field of Quail Science during a Senate Open Session held at GOR Perjuangan ’45 on May 26, 2026. The inauguration represents one of the highest academic achievements within the institution and reinforces Polije’s commitment to advancing applied research and vocational education.

With the appointment of Prof. Rosa, Polije now has its eighth professor and its second female professor. The achievement reflects the institution’s continuous efforts to strengthen academic excellence and increase the number of highly qualified scholars who contribute to the development of science, technology, and innovation.

In her scientific oration, Prof. Rosa highlighted the strategic role of quail farming in supporting national food security. She emphasized that quail production offers a practical and affordable source of animal protein that can be developed rapidly and independently by communities. According to her, quail farming has significant potential to address future nutritional challenges amid global uncertainty and rising food demand.

Prof. Rosa explained that quails are often overlooked compared to larger poultry industries such as broiler and layer chickens. However, she argued that the species possesses unique advantages, including fast growth, high productivity, relatively low production costs, and efficient land utilization. These characteristics make quail farming an attractive option for small-scale farmers and rural communities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the academic senate, university leaders, lecturers, students, government representatives, and invited guests. The event celebrated not only an individual academic achievement but also Polije’s broader mission of producing research that directly benefits society and supports national development priorities.

Director of Polije, Saiful Anwar, expressed pride in the growing number of professors within the institution. He noted that professors play a vital role in strengthening the quality of higher education, enhancing research productivity, and expanding collaborations that contribute to institutional growth and community impact.

As a leading expert in animal science, Prof. Rosa is expected to continue advancing research and innovation in quail production, nutrition, breeding, and agribusiness development. Her expertise is anticipated to support the development of sustainable livestock systems while creating opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, and the broader agricultural sector.

The inauguration of Prof. Rosa Tri Hermawati demonstrates Polije’s dedication to academic excellence and its vision of becoming a center of innovation in vocational higher education. Through the contributions of its professors and researchers, the institution continues to develop practical solutions that address societal needs, strengthen food security, and support Indonesia’s sustainable development goals.
