Polije Postgraduate Student Wins First Place in Coffee Waste Innovation

JEMBER – Khoirul Azka Azkiya, a postgraduate Agribusiness student at Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije), won first place in the Coffee Waste Innovation category. The Agriculture and Food Security Office of Bondowoso Regency organized the competition.

The competition, themed “Nusantara’s Finest Coffee and Tobacco for Worldwide,” provided a platform for agricultural innovators. In addition, the event encouraged participants to develop innovations based on local potential.

In the competition, Azka processed coffee waste into an economically valuable product. His idea addressed challenges related to coffee plantation waste management in East Java.

Azka then passed several selection stages before reaching the final round in Bondowoso. The jury considered his innovation creative and commercially promising.

“This achievement proves that master’s students can also make proud accomplishments,” Azka said. He considered the achievement a motivation to further develop his research.

Azka explained that his research focuses on increasing the economic value of coffee farmers’ products. Therefore, he hopes communities can directly apply and benefit from the innovation.

Polije continues to encourage students to develop applied research based on local potential. The institution also supports innovations that provide tangible benefits to communities.

“We hope this innovation can continue to develop and create a real impact on the coffee industry,” Azka said. He also hopes the innovation can create new economic opportunities for coffee farmers.
