YOGYAKARTA – Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) has ranked second among the most sustainable polytechnic higher education institutions in Indonesia in the 2026 UI GreenMetric (UIGM) ranking.

Polije received the award at the 2026 UIGM event held at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. The achievement also marks an improvement in Polije’s position compared with the previous year.

Polije Director Saiful Anwar, S.TP., M.P., expressed his appreciation to the entire Polije community, particularly the SDGs Team, which has implemented various sustainability programs.

“Alhamdulillah, in 2026, Politeknik Negeri Jember once again received an award at the UI GreenMetric event held at UGM. Polije improved its ranking from the previous year and achieved second place as the most sustainable polytechnic in Indonesia,” Saiful said.

The SDGs Team has implemented programs focused on waste management and recycling, environmental conservation, solar panel utilization, and energy and water efficiency. Polije also continues to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.

In addition, Polije has collaborated with PT Rolas Medika to process hospital food waste into maggot feed. The maggots can then be used as feed for poultry and other animals.

“Polije has also collaborated with PT Rolas Medika to process food waste from hospitals into feed materials for maggots,” Saiful explained.

According to Saiful, these programs are not limited to the campus environment. Polije also aims to encourage communities to implement independent waste management practices.

“We are targeting first place as the most sustainable polytechnic in Indonesia in 2027,” Saiful emphasized.

To achieve this target, Polije is encouraging the entire academic community to strengthen environmental awareness and concern. One of the efforts is to develop the habit of sorting and managing waste according to its type.
