Polije Strengthens Students’ Career Readiness through Professional Communication Training
JEMBER — Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) strengthened students’ career readiness through professional competency and communication training under the Empower-U Incubation Program. The activity equipped students with communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and self-management skills.
Rifqi Dwi Anggraeni, S.Sos., M.M., led the training on professional communication and workplace habits. Students learned how to deliver messages clearly, concisely, relevantly, and according to their audience’s needs.
The trainer introduced four stages of communication: establishing context, delivering the key message, organizing information, and determining follow-up actions. Students also practiced the One Message, Four Audiences strategy to adapt communication for supervisors, colleagues, external stakeholders, and clients.
The training also covered proactive listening and nonverbal communication. Students practiced asking questions, responding appropriately, managing intonation, maintaining eye contact, and using effective body posture.
The training featured an interactive session through the 60-Second Workplace Challenge. Students acted as interns who had to report work progress, explain challenges, and propose next steps within a limited time.
The trainer also introduced a feedback technique based on the Observe, Impact, Suggest, and Encourage stages. This approach helped students deliver specific, respectful, and improvement-oriented feedback.
Students practiced grounding techniques, breathing regulation, and pace control to reduce nervousness when speaking. They also completed an assignment to prepare a 30-to-60-second professional self-introduction.
Through Empower-U Incubation, Polije continues to encourage students to develop competencies aligned with industry needs. Professional communication skills provide essential preparation for students to adapt and contribute effectively in the workplace.
