Polije Students Develop “Racik-In” Application for Practical and Cost-Efficient Cooking
Students of Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) have developed an innovative mobile application called Racik-In, designed to help users prepare meals more efficiently using ingredients already available at home. The application was created as a practical solution to everyday cooking challenges, particularly for individuals who often struggle to decide what dishes they can make with limited ingredients. Through this innovation, the student team aims to promote smarter food management while reducing household food waste. (polije.ac.id)
The idea for Racik-In emerged from the observation that many households frequently purchase additional ingredients despite already having sufficient food supplies in their kitchens. As a result, unused ingredients often spoil and contribute to unnecessary waste. The application addresses this problem by helping users identify recipes based on ingredients they currently possess, making cooking more practical and economical. (polije.ac.id)
One of the application’s key features is its ingredient-based recipe recommendation system. Users simply input the ingredients available in their kitchen, and the system generates suitable recipe suggestions. This functionality enables users to maximize the use of existing ingredients while minimizing additional grocery expenses. (polije.ac.id)
In addition to recipe recommendations, Racik-In provides detailed cooking instructions that guide users through each stage of meal preparation. The application is designed to be user-friendly, making it accessible to a wide range of users, including students, homemakers, and individuals with limited cooking experience. By simplifying the cooking process, the platform encourages more people to prepare meals at home. (polije.ac.id)
The development team also incorporated features aimed at promoting healthy and balanced eating habits. By offering diverse recipe options based on available ingredients, the application encourages users to create nutritious meals while maintaining flexibility in their food choices. This approach supports both household budget management and healthier lifestyles. (polije.ac.id)
The project demonstrates how digital technology can be applied to solve practical problems faced by society. Through the integration of information technology and culinary knowledge, the students transformed a common household challenge into an innovative digital solution with potential benefits for a broad user base. The creation of Racik-In also reflects Polije’s commitment to fostering creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship among its students. By encouraging project-based learning and real-world problem solving, the institution enables students to develop products that have practical value and potential commercial applications.
