Rizki Amalia Nurfitriani, a young lecturer at Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije), has developed an innovative livestock feed product based on local resources to support the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as Indonesia’s livestock industry. Specializing in Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology, she focuses on producing high-quality silage through modern fermentation technology while utilizing locally available feed materials.

Starting her academic career at the age of 23, Rizki has dedicated her research to improving feed efficiency and reducing production costs for livestock farmers. Her work emphasizes the use of agricultural by-products and local feed resources found in Jember Regency, creating sustainable solutions that are both economically viable and environmentally responsible.

One of the key aspects of her innovation is the utilization of agricultural waste such as rice straw, corn plants, and sugarcane tops. Through fermentation processes, these materials are transformed into nutritious silage capable of supporting livestock productivity while reducing dependence on expensive commercial feed.

According to Rizki, the development of local feed resources has significant potential to support integrated farming systems. By converting agricultural waste into valuable livestock feed, farmers can create a circular agricultural economy that enhances efficiency and contributes to national food self-sufficiency.

The innovation also offers direct economic benefits to livestock producers. Feed costs represent one of the largest expenses in dairy, beef, and goat farming. By utilizing locally sourced feed ingredients, farmers can significantly lower production costs while maintaining animal health and productivity.

Rizki’s research achievements have attracted support from several national institutions and industry partners. Over the course of her career, she has produced numerous international scientific publications and books while securing research funding and collaborative programs involving organizations such as LPDP, BRIN, and private-sector partners.

Her collaboration with companies and community-based organizations has further strengthened the practical application of her research. Through partnerships with industry and rural enterprises, the feed innovations developed at Polije are being introduced directly to farmers, helping improve livestock productivity and supporting the development of rural economies.

The success of Rizki Amalia’s work reflects Polije’s commitment to producing applied research that addresses real-world challenges. By transforming local agricultural resources into innovative feed products, she is helping strengthen Indonesia’s livestock sector, empowering MSMEs, and contributing to the broader goal of sustainable national food security.
