JEMBER – A student team from the Information Technology Department of Politeknik Negeri Jember (Polije) has introduced HoloPuzzle, an innovative learning medium, at SDLB BCD YPAC Kaliwates Jember. The multisensory learning tool supports interactive education for students with intellectual disabilities.

HoloPuzzle combines three-dimensional visual displays using a 3D Fan Hologram with hands-on activities involving floor foam puzzle pieces. The innovation was developed based on the Polije team’s observations of the learning needs of students with intellectual disabilities at the school.

Students with intellectual disabilities often require repeated practice to recognize, pronounce, and remember letters, numbers, and words. The Polije student team worked directly with teachers to adjust the difficulty of learning activities according to students’ abilities.

Students practiced matching foam pieces with the visual objects displayed through the 3D Fan Hologram. This interactive learning approach helped improve students’ focus while strengthening fine motor coordination between their eyes, hands, and brains.

“With HoloPuzzle, the children have a different learning experience when remembering and recognizing letters,” said Indri, a teacher at SDLB BCD YPAC Jember.

Indri added that combining visual displays with physical activities encouraged students to participate more enthusiastically in their daily classes. The team’s observations also showed improvements in students’ ability to recognize letters and independently form words.

As part of the program’s sustainability efforts, the Polije team provided a user guide and technical training for teachers. The assistance aims to enable the school to continue using HoloPuzzle independently over the long term.

“We hope HoloPuzzle can continue to help teachers provide more enjoyable and engaging learning methods,” said Catur Zackylha Meiriska Putri, leader of the Polije PKM-PM team.
